Event:	Hackettstown Kiwanis Bell Ringing
Club:	Kiwanis Club of Hackettstown
Description:	We bell ring each holiday season, similar to Salvation Army. We coordinate with the Mansfield ShopRite and Walmart to stand outside their entrances. We chose 3 weekends (both Saturday and Sunday), typically the weekend before Thanksgiving, and the 1st and 2nd weekends in December. We split up each day into four 2-hour sessions, beginning at 8am and ending at 4pm. At each session we schedule 1 Kiwanian and no more than 2-3 Key Clubbers to stand next to our sign and bucket to ring the bells. Each day we also have a "Captain" that sets up in the morning, collects the money from each 2-hour shift, break-down at the end of the day, counts the days collections, and delivers them to the Foundation Treasurer. At the end of the event we purchase gift cards from ShopRite and Walmart and donate them to local families. If you pre-order the gift cards from ShopRite they give a 5% discount. The families are determined by the school nurses in each of the local elementary schools. Each family receives $100 in total gift cards and the number of families we assist is determined by the amount of money we are able to raise. The gift cards are brought to the nurses to distribute prior to the Holiday break.
